Mihai Bace

Mihai Bâce

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Perceptual User Interfaces group led by Prof. Andreas Bulling at the University of Stuttgart, Germany since December 2020.

My research interest is in the general area of Human-Computer Interaction, with a focus on computational aspects and has influences from both Machine Learning and Computer Vision. In my work, I develop innovative technologies to better understand users and enhance their interaction capabilities. Concretely, my work so far has focused on 1) detecting gestures using off-the-shelf wearables and facilitating interaction among multiple people, 2) enhancing the interaction experience when using wearable eye trackers either by making calibration easier or through gaze gestures, and 3) understanding and quantifying users' visual attention during everyday mobile device interactions.

Previously, I did my PhD in the Distributed Systems Group at ETH Zürich under the supervision of Prof. Friedemann Mattern. I obtained my master's degree in Computer Science from EPFL, Switzerland and my bachelor's also in Computer Science from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. During my master studies I did two internships, one at Microsoft as a Software Development Engineer and one at ABB Corporate Research Center where I worked on my master thesis.
